What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students connect present-day features, such as language, religion, borders, foods, and population patterns, to earlier events. They use maps, timelines, and short sources to explain how those links developed.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can explain how colonization, migration, or trade shaped a society using accurate examples. The student supports each connection with evidence from a map, timeline, image, or text.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume one event caused every feature of a society. They may treat colonization, migration, and trade as the same process or assume cultural change happened quickly and affected everyone equally.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Name one feature of present-day Mexico and explain how a historical event shaped it. Include one piece of evidence from the class map or timeline.
