What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students name current leaders who represent them in city, state, and federal government. They connect each leader to an office and describe leadership qualities shown by past or present Texas leaders.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students correctly match the governor, mayor, legislators, senators, representatives, and Texans who became president to their offices. They support a leadership quality with a specific action or decision.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often confuse the governor with the mayor, state legislators with members of Congress, or U.S. senators with state senators. They may describe a leader as popular or famous without giving evidence of a leadership quality.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Name your mayor, governor, one state legislator, one U.S. senator, and your U.S. representative. Choose one and explain a leadership quality with evidence.
