What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify actions taken by Daniel Boone and selected Founding Fathers. They explain how those actions helped settlements grow or helped people form a new nation.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students explain that Boone opened the Wilderness Road, which helped settlers reach Kentucky. They connect a Founding Father’s leadership, writing, or planning to cooperation among the colonies and the creation of the United States.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may say Boone discovered empty land, ignoring the Native peoples already living there. They may treat the Founding Fathers as one person or assume community growth was always peaceful.
How to Assess It
- Give an exit ticket with two names: Daniel Boone and one Founding Father. For each, students write one action and one effect on a community.
