What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify the work people do to make a product or provide help. They explain how a worker’s actions lead to something people use.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can explain how a farmer, baker, driver, and store clerk help bread reach a customer. They can tell whether each result is a good or a service.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may call every result a good, including transportation or teaching. They may name what a worker provides without explaining the worker’s action, or assume one person completes the whole process.
How to Assess It
- Show a picture of a baker and a bus driver. Ask, “What does each worker do, and how does that work provide a good or service?”

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs worker, tool, and product picture cards to match, then have them explain how each worker helps make or provide something.
Ask, “Who helped your lunch reach you today?” and record a chain from farmer to cafeteria worker.
Play Job Contribution Bingo by reading worker actions while students cover the matching good or service on their boards.
Tour the school office, library, or cafeteria, then have students name the service each worker provides and who uses it.
