What Students Need to Do: Students explain that a market brings buyers and sellers together. They identify what buyers give and what sellers provide, including both goods and services.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students can identify the buyer, seller, payment, and product in a simple example. They can explain how a market helps people get what they want or need.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think a market is only a grocery store or farmers market. They may also think services are objects, rather than work someone does for another person.
How to Assess It: Show a picture of a farmers market and ask, "Who is buying, who is selling, and how does the market help them trade?"

Lesson moves

Set up a classroom market with picture cards, play coins, buyers, and sellers exchanging goods and services.
Ask students to draw a market and label the buyer, seller, payment, and item or service.
Play Market Match by pairing buyer cards with sellers offering the good or service each buyer needs.
Study a local store or salon photo and discuss what customers give and what the business provides.
