What Students Need to Do: Students put pictures, events, or facts in a clear order. They also group items by a shared feature and explain their choices.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can arrange four events from first to last using picture clues. The student can sort information into sensible groups and name the rule used.
Common Misconceptions: Students may order events by picture position instead of using time clues. They may also sort by an unrelated feature or change the sorting rule halfway through.
How to Assess It: Give students four mixed-up pictures of a school day to order, then six objects to sort into two groups. Ask them to explain each choice.

Lesson moves

Give pairs picture cards showing a morning routine, then have them arrange the cards and sort actions by home or school.
Ask students to write or tell three steps for getting ready, using first, next, and last.
Play a sorting relay where teams place picture cards under labels such as people, places, events, or objects.
Use a grocery store flyer and have students group items by food type, then plan the order for collecting them in the store.
