What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare how people sent messages, traveled, and played long ago with how they do those things now. They explain how a tool made an activity faster, easier, safer, or different.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can pair an older tool with a newer tool and name what changed. They can give clear examples for communication, travel, and play.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think technology only means electronic devices. They may assume older tools disappeared completely or that every new tool improved life in every way.
How to Assess It
- Show pictures of a letter, email, horse, car, hoop, and video game. Ask students to make three pairs and explain how each newer tool changed the activity.
