What Students Need to Do

Students trace water as it evaporates, condenses, falls, and collects, and connect the Sun's energy to that movement. They model how water, wind, and ice weather, erode, and deposit Earth materials. They also tell short-term weather apart from long-term climate patterns.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students can draw and label a water cycle, explain what powers it, and show how sediment moves and settles. Given examples, they correctly classify weather and climate and explain their choices.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think water disappears during evaporation or that clouds are made of smoke. They often confuse weathering with erosion, or assume both happen quickly. They may call one hot or rainy day evidence of climate.

How to Assess It

Give students a three-part exit ticket: draw the water cycle, explain where sand goes after runoff, and label two statements as weather or climate.
