What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use drawing, dictation, oral expression, emergent writing, or a combination to name a familiar topic and supply information. Multiple modes can work together.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student clearly names a topic and provides relevant information through one or more modes. Marks, words, pictures, and speech agree.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may draw without communicating information or name a topic without details. They may copy adult words without explaining them.
How to Assess It
- Give a familiar topic. Ask the student to draw, dictate, speak, or write the topic and two related pieces of information.
