What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students participate in conversations through several exchanges. They listen and respond to keep the talk connected.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student answers, adds a related idea, and responds again across multiple turns. Contributions stay on the shared topic.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may give one answer and stop. They may wait to speak but introduce an unrelated topic.
How to Assess It
- Run a partner conversation and prompt at least three connected exchanges from each student.
