What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify the front cover, back cover, and title page of a book. They use physical position and visible features to distinguish each part.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student points to and names all three book parts accurately. The student can locate the title on the title page and orient the book correctly.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may call the back cover the last page. They may confuse the title page with the front cover because both show the title.
How to Assess It
- Hand the student a picture book. Ask them to identify the front cover, back cover, and title page and explain one clue for each.
