What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify a specific detail that supports an idea in a text. They use spoken words, pictures, or pointing to show the supporting information.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student selects an accurate detail from the text or illustration that belongs with the idea. The student gives a simple explanation of the connection.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may choose a favorite detail rather than a supporting one. They may answer from personal knowledge instead of information in the text.
How to Assess It
- Read a brief illustrated text and state one idea. Ask the student to point to or tell one detail that supports it.
