What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use advanced searches to gather relevant information from multiple sources. They judge each source's usefulness, integrate selected evidence smoothly, avoid plagiarism, and cite in a standard format.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student builds precise searches, evaluates how well each source answers the inquiry, and leaves out material that interrupts the focus. Evidence is integrated selectively with accurate citations.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may choose sources that match keywords but do not answer the research question, or integrate too much material and disrupt their own reasoning. They may copy wording or omit standard citations.
How to Assess It
- Give a research question, search results, and three source excerpts. Ask students to refine the search, rank source usefulness, integrate one excerpt, and cite it correctly.
