What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students prepare for discussion through close reading and research. They use evidence to stimulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned exchange rather than simply report findings.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student arrives with synthesized notes from credible sources and cites them accurately. Contributions invite analysis, connect ideas, or revise a claim in response to evidence.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may collect quotations without synthesis or source context. They may dominate with prepared material instead of using it to support an exchange.
How to Assess It
- Assign a short source set and seminar question. Require synthesized evidence notes, one reasoned contribution, and one evidence-based response that advances the exchange.
