What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask questions that connect ideas from several speakers. They respond with relevant evidence, observations, and ideas that advance the shared discussion.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student names and connects at least two earlier contributions in a focused question. Responses cite evidence and explain how the new idea relates.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may mention multiple speakers without showing a relationship. They may respond to the latest comment while ignoring the broader discussion.
How to Assess It
- During a seminar, require each student to ask one question connecting two speakers and give one evidence-based response to another question.
