What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students acknowledge new information from others and revise personal views when evidence warrants it. They explain what changed, qualified, or remained supported.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student accurately names a peer’s new information and shows its effect on a prior claim. Any revision is evidence-based rather than automatic agreement.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may pretend to change views to appear agreeable. They may ignore new evidence or revise a position without explaining why.
How to Assess It
- After a discussion with new evidence, ask students to state one peer contribution and explain whether it changed, qualified, or confirmed their view.
