What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students consider ideas expressed in discussion and draw conclusions from the information gained. They explain how contributions support the conclusion.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student synthesizes relevant ideas from more than one speaker into a defensible conclusion. The explanation distinguishes evidence from personal preference.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may choose the most recent or popular idea as the conclusion. They may list comments without showing how they combine.
How to Assess It
- After a discussion, ask students to draw one conclusion and cite two contributions or pieces of information that support it.
