What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students follow agreed discussion norms and carry out assigned roles. They support equitable participation and complete responsibilities that help the group reach its goal.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student follows turn-taking and listening expectations, fulfills a role, and redirects behavior respectfully when needed. The role contribution is visible in the group’s work.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may perform a role mechanically without listening. They may treat norms as the teacher’s job to enforce or allow one role to control the group.
How to Assess It
- Give groups a short task with roles and posted norms. Use a checklist for role completion, listening, turn-taking, and shared progress.
