- Students follow shared discussion rules by listening actively, taking turns, and staying on topic. They participate in ways that help others speak and understand.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student waits, listens, and contributes a relevant comment at the right time. The student can restate a peer’s idea.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may be quiet without listening. They may interrupt, repeat their point, or shift topics.
How to Assess It
- Observe a four-minute group discussion with a checklist for active listening, turn-taking, and on-topic participation.
