What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask for clarification or more explanation when they do not understand a topic or text. They use specific questions that identify the confusing point.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student asks a focused question such as what a term means or why an event happened. The follow-up response shows improved understanding.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may stay silent or say only I do not get it. They may ask an unrelated question or repeat the original statement.
How to Assess It
- Present a brief explanation with one unclear term or missing step. Ask students to pose a clarification question and restate the answer.
