What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask questions when a topic or text is confusing. They identify the unclear part and request the information needed.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student asks a focused question about a word, event, direction, or idea. The answer helps the student restate the point more clearly.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may stay silent or say only that they are confused. They may ask an unrelated question or repeat the original words.
How to Assess It
- Present a short explanation with one unclear term or missing step. Ask students to pose a clarifying question and restate the answer.
