What Students Need to Do: Students decode regularly spelled two-syllable words. They divide, read, and blend syllables using familiar spelling patterns.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student marks a useful syllable break and reads each part accurately. The whole-word pronunciation is smooth and makes sense.
Common Misconceptions: Students may guess from the first syllable or picture. They may split a consonant blend or ignore a vowel sound when dividing.
How to Assess It: Give students six unfamiliar regular two-syllable words. Ask them to mark syllable breaks, read each part, and blend the whole word.
