What Students Need to Do
- Students decode two-syllable words by dividing them into syllables that follow basic patterns. They read each part and blend the complete word.
What Mastery Looks Like
- The student marks a workable syllable break and reads both syllables accurately. The blended word sounds like a familiar spoken word or fits context.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may guess from the first syllable. They may split a consonant blend or forget to blend the two parts.
How to Assess It
- Give six regular two-syllable words. Ask students to mark the syllables, read each part, and blend the whole word.
