What Students Need to Do: Students decode regularly spelled one-syllable words with long vowel sounds. They use final-e patterns and common vowel teams.
What Mastery Looks Like: The student reads words such as made, bike, team, and boat accurately. The student identifies the spelling pattern that signals the long vowel.
Common Misconceptions: Students may apply the short vowel sound automatically. They may pronounce both vowels separately in a team or ignore final e.
How to Assess It: Give students eight one-syllable words using final e and common vowel teams. Ask them to read and sort by long vowel sound.
