What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students use words to identify and describe people, places, objects, actions, and experiences. They connect descriptive words to real examples that show each meaning.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can choose an accurate word for a familiar example and explain the connection. The student uses the word in a sentence that makes the identifying or describing meaning clear.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may use a favorite describing word for every example or repeat the noun without describing it. They may connect a word to one memory but not understand its broader use.
How to Assess It
- Give students the words cozy, crowded, and slippery with several pictures. Ask them to match, explain, and use each word.
