What Students Need to Do: Students identify what the Freedmen's Bureau and Ku Klux Klan wanted, what each did, and what resulted in Georgia. They explain how federal aid and white supremacist violence affected freedom, voting, education, and political power.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can explain that the Freedmen's Bureau provided schools, relief, labor support, and legal help, though its reach was limited. The student can explain that the Klan used threats and violence to suppress Black voting and Republican power.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think both groups were government agencies or had equally legitimate goals. They may also assume the Bureau gave land to most freedpeople, or that Klan violence had little political effect.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: For each group, write one goal, one method, and one outcome in Georgia, then add one accurate similarity.

Lesson moves
