What Students Need to Do
- Students calculate profit as the money left after business costs are paid. They explain how the chance to earn profit can lead a person to start, expand, or improve a business.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a business scenario, students identify revenue, costs, and profit correctly. They can explain why expected profit may justify the owner's time, ideas, and financial risk.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often confuse profit with total sales revenue. They may ignore costs or assume every business earns profit. Some think entrepreneurs are guaranteed payment for taking a risk.
How to Assess It
- Give this exit ticket: “A Georgia food truck earns $900 in sales and has $650 in costs. Find the profit and explain how it could affect the owner's next decision.”
