What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students explain how major Georgia companies affect jobs, transportation, suppliers, tax revenue, and population growth. They use evidence to judge which effects contributed most to Georgia’s development.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students can trace a clear cause-and-effect chain from a company’s actions to changes in Georgia’s economy. They support an evaluation with specific facts rather than company name recognition.

Common Misconceptions

Students may treat company revenue or popularity as proof of statewide impact. They may confuse a company founded in Georgia with one merely operating there, or assume every effect is positive.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Choose Coca-Cola, Delta, Georgia-Pacific, Home Depot, or UPS. Write one cause-and-effect chain showing its impact on Georgia, then explain why that impact matters.

Ways to Teach It

  1. Give groups company, job, supplier, transportation, and tax cards to arrange into an economic impact chain.

  2. Ask students to write which Georgia company has shaped the state most, using two facts and one counterclaim.

  3. Play an evidence match game connecting Coca-Cola, Delta, Georgia-Pacific, Home Depot, and UPS to specific effects on Georgia.

  4. Map a nearby employer’s suppliers, workers, customers, and transportation links, then compare that network with a major Georgia company.
