What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students compare how farming, film, manufacturing, services, and technology affect Georgia’s jobs, income, tax revenue, and regional growth. They use evidence to judge the size and type of each impact.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a chart or short case, students make a clear claim about an industry’s economic impact and support it with data. They distinguish direct effects, such as factory jobs, from indirect effects, such as spending at nearby businesses.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume the most visible industry has the greatest impact. They may overlook supply chains, treat revenue as profit, or think agriculture includes only work done on farms.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: A new film studio hires 500 workers, buys from local vendors, and attracts visitors. Identify one direct and one indirect impact, then judge which matters most.

Ways to Teach It
Give groups industry cards and Georgia county maps, then have them place businesses and trace likely effects on jobs, suppliers, and local spending.
Ask students to write: Which Georgia industry would create the biggest economic loss if it disappeared, and what evidence supports your claim?
