What Students Need to Do: Students connect colonization, land loss, forced child removal, and discrimination to conditions Aboriginal communities face now. They explain effects on rights, health, literacy, and language with evidence.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students build a clear chain from a colonial action to a lasting effect. They support each connection with facts and avoid treating all Aboriginal communities as identical.
Common Misconceptions: Students may assume harmful effects ended when discriminatory laws changed. They may also equate English literacy with intelligence or overlook Aboriginal languages, oral traditions, and cultural knowledge.
How to Assess It: Give students one policy card and four headings: rights, health, literacy, and language. Ask them to explain two lasting effects using complete cause and effect statements.
