What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how access to oil, natural gas, coal, timber, and farmland can shape jobs, industry, trade, and government income. They compare how these effects differ in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Russia.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students connect a named resource to a specific economic effect, such as Russian natural gas supporting exports and government revenue. They also explain how limited supplies can lead Germany or the United Kingdom to import resources or develop alternatives.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may assume that having many resources automatically makes a country wealthy. They may also confuse natural resources with manufactured goods or overlook the costs of extraction, changing prices, and dependence on exports.
How to Assess It
- Give students one resource profile for each country. Ask them to write which economy benefits most from the resource and explain one effect on trade, jobs, or industry.
