What Students Need to Do
- Students explain how land, minerals, forests, and energy resources support production, jobs, exports, and government income. They compare examples from Brazil, Cuba, and Mexico.

- Students can name a resource in each country and connect it to an industry or export. They can explain that resources create opportunities but do not guarantee economic growth.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think a country with many resources is automatically wealthy. They may confuse raw resources, such as iron ore, with finished products. They may overlook costs from resource depletion, changing prices, or environmental damage.
How to Assess It
- Ask: Choose Brazil, Cuba, or Mexico. Name one natural resource and explain how it affects jobs, trade, or government income.
