What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students locate where a selected historical figure lived and identify features such as climate, land, water, and natural resources. They explain how those features shaped daily life, then compare that region with their own.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students use a map or image as evidence to connect a geographic feature with work, travel, food, housing, or other choices. They name one clear similarity and one clear difference between regions.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may describe only where a person lived, without explaining how the place affected life. They may assume all parts of Georgia have the same land and climate. They may also compare people instead of regions.
How to Assess It
- Give students two regional maps and ask: “Name one difference between these regions and explain how it could affect daily life.” Require one map detail as evidence.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs a Georgia map, landform cards, and figure cards, then have them match each figure to a region and explain one connection.
Ask students to write: “How might this person’s life change if they lived in our region?” Support answers with one geographic feature.
Play Region Detective by reading clues about climate, land, water, and resources while teams identify the region and likely ways of life.
Take a short schoolyard walk, record local land and water features, then compare them with images from a historical figure’s region.
