What Students Need to Do
- Students plan and draft a social studies response for a clear purpose and audience. They use feedback to improve ideas, evidence, organization, and wording. They edit errors and rewrite sections when a new approach works better.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can name their purpose and audience, produce a focused draft, and make changes that improve meaning. They can compare two drafts and explain why their revisions are stronger.
Common Misconceptions
- Students often treat revision as fixing spelling and punctuation only. They may accept every peer suggestion, swap words without improving evidence, or forget that audience affects tone and detail.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Revise “The Nile was important and helped Egypt in many ways” for a fifth-grade museum visitor. Add one specific detail and explain your revision.
