What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask simple questions about familiar situations and collect information through surveys or observations. They use picture graphs or object graphs to answer questions and make everyday decisions.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can ask a question that can be answered from a picture graph or class observations. The student counts accurately, compares categories, and explains the answer using the gathered information.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may count pictures incorrectly, confuse most with least, or ignore category labels. They may answer from personal preference instead of using the displayed information.
How to Assess It
- Show a picture graph of favorite playground activities. Ask each student to pose one question the graph can answer, then answer it using numbers or comparison words.
