What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students plan and deliver presentations for a specific audience and goal. They adjust their language, details, tone, pacing, visuals, and format to suit the listeners.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students choose details, language, tone, pace, and visuals that fit a named audience and goal. They can explain their choices and adjust the presentation when the audience or purpose changes.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think changing one or two words is enough to address a new audience. They may use the same details, tone, visuals, or delivery for everyone, or assume formal language always works best.
How to Assess It
- Give students a topic, purpose, and audience, such as explaining a new phone policy to families. Ask them to outline three presentation choices and explain why each fits.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs an event flyer and two audience cards, then have them present the announcement once for students and once for families.
Write: How would you explain the same school rule to a younger child, a classmate, and the principal?
Play Audience Switch, where students draw a new audience card halfway through a one-minute presentation and adjust their delivery.
Create a 60-second proposal for a real school improvement, tailored to the student council, principal, or parent group.
