What Students Need to Do
- Students answer historical questions with details from reliable primary and secondary sources. They conduct an oral history interview, verify claims across sources, and judge whether evidence supports an argument.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students cite specific details, explain why a source is trustworthy, and separate strong evidence from unsupported claims. Their interview questions invite detailed memories without suggesting an answer.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat every published source as reliable or choose evidence because it matches their opinion. They may confuse a strong claim with a strong argument, ask leading interview questions, or cite details that do not answer the question.
How to Assess It
- Give students two short sources about the same event. Ask them to answer one question, cite two supporting details, and explain which source is more reliable and why.
