What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students ask a clear question about the past and look for answers in books, library materials, or child-safe websites. They record a relevant fact and name the source.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can choose a useful source and use a title, index, table of contents, or search words to find information. The student answers the question with an accurate fact and identifies where it was found.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat the first search result as correct or confuse stories with factual sources. They may copy an interesting detail that does not answer the question or name the device instead of the source.
How to Assess It
- Give students the question, “What games did children play long ago?” Provide two books and one child-safe webpage, then ask for one answer and its source.
