What Students Need to Do: Students explain how a worker’s time, skills, and effort help a business provide goods or services. They connect that value to an employer’s decision to pay wages.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students can name a job and describe how the worker helps the employer serve customers or earn money. They can explain why hiring the worker benefits the business.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think employers pay workers simply because workers need money. They may also assume every worker earns the same amount, regardless of skills, duties, or experience.
How to Assess It: Exit ticket: A bakery owner hires another baker. Explain one reason the owner is willing to pay that worker.

Lesson moves

Give groups a paper bakery, order cards, and play money to compare how many orders one baker and three bakers can complete.
Discuss this prompt: Why would a store owner pay a cashier instead of doing every task alone?
Match job cards to employer benefit cards, such as delivery driver with getting products to customers.
