What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify wages, salaries, and commissions as forms of pay. They explain how hours worked, a fixed yearly amount, or sales can determine earnings.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students match job examples and pay stubs to the correct form of pay. They calculate simple earnings and explain why total pay may change.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think every worker earns the same amount each payday. They may confuse salary with hourly wages or think commission is extra pay instead of pay based on sales.
How to Assess It
- Give students three worker cards showing hours worked, annual pay, or sales made. Ask them to name each payment method and explain their choice.

Set up three job stations where students use play money to calculate hourly wages, weekly salary, and commission from sales.
Ask students to write which payment method they would choose for a bike shop job and give two reasons.
