What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students match occupations with the abilities and knowledge used in each role. They explain why a specific skill helps someone complete that work.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can identify several skills needed for a given occupation and support each choice with a job task. They can also spot skills shared across occupations.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may confuse a skill with a tool, such as naming a hammer instead of hand coordination. They may think each occupation uses only one skill or that skills cannot transfer between jobs.
How to Assess It
- Exit ticket: Choose one occupation, list two skills it requires, and explain how each skill helps complete a specific task.

Ways to Teach It
Give pairs occupation and skill cards to match, then have them add one missing skill on a blank card.
Ask students to write which skills a veterinarian and a teacher share, then explain one difference.
Play Skill Charades, where students act out a workplace skill while classmates name an occupation that uses it.
Show a local job posting and have students highlight the requested skills, then connect each skill to a listed duty.
