What This Cluster Means

What Students Need to Do

Students trace how Florida changed from the 1920s through the mid-1940s. They use maps, photos, and accounts to explain changes in jobs, communities, and daily life.

What Mastery Looks Like

Students place major events in order and connect them through cause and effect. They explain how the land boom, economic hardship, and wartime growth affected Floridians.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think all Floridians prospered during the 1920s or that the stock market crash alone caused every hardship. They may also assume World War II affected only places overseas.

How to Assess It

Exit ticket: Place the land boom, the economic depression, and wartime military growth in order. Write one Florida cause or effect for each.

  2. Write a diary entry from a Florida resident during one period, using three details from class sources.

  3. Play a cause-and-effect matching game with cards about hurricanes, bank failures, New Deal projects, military bases, and population growth.

  4. Use a Florida map to locate a nearby airport, military base, park, or public building connected to changes during these years.
