What Students Need to Do

Students explain how railroads, farming, tourism, new technology, and population growth changed Florida. They connect each development to changes in jobs, cities, travel, and daily life.

Students can place major developments in order and explain clear causes and effects. They use maps, photographs, or short texts as evidence for how Florida changed.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think industrial growth means only factories or that every part of Florida changed at the same time. They may confuse a cause, such as a new railroad, with an effect, such as city growth.

How to Assess It

Give students a Florida map showing a new railroad line. Ask, “Name two changes this railroad could bring to nearby communities and explain why.”
