What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify traits of responsible citizens, such as being respectful, informed, helpful, and law-abiding. They explain how these traits support their community and Florida.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Students can describe responsible choices at both local and state levels. They can explain who benefits from each choice and why it shows good citizenship.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think citizenship only means voting, or that children cannot act as responsible citizens. They may also confuse being polite with taking civic responsibility.
How to Assess It
- Ask students to write one responsible action they can take in their community and one that helps Florida. For each, explain why it matters.
