What Students Need to Do

Students work with classmates to plan, create, revise, and share a written, visual, or spoken product. They contribute ideas, listen to others, use feedback, and complete an agreed task.

What Mastery Looks Like

A student shares relevant ideas, takes an agreed role, and completes a fair part of the work. The student listens to feedback, suggests useful changes, and helps produce a clear final product.

Common Misconceptions

Students may think collaboration means one person does the work while others watch. They may reject feedback, copy a partner’s ideas, or divide tasks without checking that the final product fits together.

How to Assess It

Give pairs a short paragraph with one unclear sentence and one missing detail. Ask them to revise it together and write one sentence explaining each partner’s contribution.

   Give groups sentence strips and picture cards, then have them arrange, revise, and illustrate a complete story together.

   Ask students to write: What makes someone a helpful writing partner? Share responses and create a class list of partner habits.

   Play Revision Relay, where partners take turns adding a detail, correcting a sentence, or improving a word in a shared paragraph.

   Have pairs create a poster for a school event, agreeing on the message, images, layout, and each person’s job.
