What This Cluster Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students study observations or simple data and state what the results show. They support the statement with evidence, separate facts from personal views, and notice results that do not fit the pattern.
What Mastery Looks Like
- Given a small data table, a student writes a matching conclusion and points to a number or observation as support. The student flags an odd result and suggests checking it again instead of ignoring it.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may treat a preference or prediction as evidence, or choose the answer they expected before looking at the results. They may erase an unusual result or assume one odd result makes all the data wrong.
How to Assess It
- Show toy car distances of 42, 44, 43, and 78 centimeters. Ask students to write one conclusion, cite one piece of evidence, and circle the unexpected result.

Ways to Teach It
Roll a toy car four times, measure each distance, record the results, and identify any measurement that does not fit.
Ask students to write whether longer shadows occur in the morning or at noon, then support their answer with class observations.
Play Evidence or Opinion Relay by having teams sort statement cards, explain each choice, and correct cards placed in the wrong group.
Examine a week of playground temperatures, identify an unusual day, and discuss whether the reading should be checked again.
