What Students Need to Do: Students take turns, listen when others speak, use kind words, and follow classroom rules. They keep trying on simple tasks and help care for shared spaces and materials.
What Mastery Looks Like: A student can disagree kindly, wait for a turn, and include classmates. The student finishes an assigned job and makes helpful choices without repeated reminders.
Common Misconceptions: Some students think showing respect means agreeing with everyone or staying silent. They may behave well only when watched or give up when a task feels hard.
How to Assess It: Show a picture of two children reaching for the same toy. Ask each student to name one kind thing to say and one responsible action to take.

Lesson moves

Set up a classroom cleanup with labeled bins, then assign each child one material to sort, return, and check.
Have students complete the prompt, “When a classmate wants the same toy, I can say...” and share one answer.
Play Responsibility Charades with cards showing taking turns, finishing a job, helping a classmate, and caring for supplies.
Invite the custodian or crossing guard to explain one community job, then have children name one way they can help.
