What Students Need to Do: Students show respect, honesty, effort, and responsibility through everyday choices. They explain how trustworthy and civil behavior helps a classroom or community.
What Mastery Looks Like: Students identify these traits in short scenarios and choose an appropriate response. They complete jobs, tell the truth, keep promises, and disagree politely.
Common Misconceptions: Students may think civility means always agreeing or that honesty only matters when adults are watching. They may confuse hard work with getting every answer right.
How to Assess It: Give an exit ticket with two classroom scenarios and a trait bank. Ask students to name the trait shown or needed and explain one good choice.

Lesson moves

Have pairs sort picture cards showing respectful, honest, responsible, and irresponsible actions, then explain each choice.
Ask students to write about a time they kept a promise, worked through difficulty, or treated someone respectfully.
Play trait charades using cards labeled honesty, respect, hard work, trustworthiness, civility, and responsibility while classmates name the evidence.
Review classroom jobs, then have each student choose one job and state how completing it helps the class community.
