What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students identify community workers and describe what each person does. They connect each worker’s actions to the people or problems they help.
What Mastery Looks Like
- A student can explain how a medical worker, first responder, teacher, or business owner helps others. The student can choose the right worker for a simple situation and give a reason.
Common Misconceptions
- Children may name a job but describe only its uniform, vehicle, or workplace. They may think firefighters only fight fires or that business owners only sell things.
How to Assess It
- Show pictures of a hurt child, a fire, a classroom, and a store. Ask students to name who could help in each situation and explain why.
Lesson moves
Ways to Teach It
Give pairs job cards and toy tools, then have them match each tool to a worker and act out how it is used.
Ask, “Who would you call if someone were hurt, a fire started, or you needed to learn, and why?”
Play Community Helper Charades, with students drawing a role card, acting out one helpful action, and classmates naming the role.
Take a school photo walk to spot staff roles, then make a class chart showing how each person helps the community.
