What This Standard Means
What Students Need to Do
- Students wait for a turn, share materials, and help with a group task. They make choices that help the whole group succeed.
What Mastery Looks Like
- During a partner or group task, students pass materials, use kind words, and complete their part. They can explain how their actions helped others.
Common Misconceptions
- Students may think sharing means giving something away forever or that taking turns means always going first. They may also think group work means one person does everything.
How to Assess It
- Give pairs one box of crayons and one picture to complete together. Watch for turn-taking and sharing, then ask each student how they helped their partner.

Ways to Teach It
Have groups build one block tower, with each child adding one block and passing the bin to the next child.
Ask, "What could you do if you and a classmate both want the same red crayon?"
Play Pass the Puppet, where each child waits for the puppet, then names one way to help the class.
Assign pairs to sort and return classroom supplies, then name how the job helped the whole class.
